CHANDIGARH
Located about 165 miles (265 km) north of New Delhi, the territory is bounded by the state of Haryana on the east and by the state of Punjab on all other sides. In 2015, an article published by BBC named Chandigarh one of the few master-planned cities in the world to have succeeded in terms of combining monumental architecture, cultural growth, and modernisation.
Chandigarh, counted among the most well planned cities in India, is both a city and Union Territory. Serving as the capital of the states of Punjab and Haryana, the city witnesses huge footfall every year. With its history as one of the most beautifully planned cities of India, this city happens to be a major Indian destination. As a result, reaching Chandigarh from any part of the world is not a problem. Those travelling by air can book their tickets up to Chandigarh airport while people who prefer trains can buy tickets till Chandigarh railway station. Travelers coming in from nearby cities can also avail state and private bus services, which are quite convenient and comfy.
Chandigarh Airport, about 12 km away from the city centre, links the city with other parts of the country and world by an extensive network of domestic and international flights.
Chandigarh enjoys excellent road connectivity with other neighboring cities and towns. Several direct buses are available from cities such as Shimla Mussoorie, McLeod Ganj, Kullu, Dharamsalaand Delhi. NH 1 connects Chandigarh with Delhi, which takes around 4 to 5 hours.
Chandigarh has its own railway station, called the Chandigarh Railway Station which is connected to several cities in India. Located about 8 km away from the city centre, this railway station has several frequent trains plying from New Delhi. There is a regular train from New Delhi for Chandigarh called the Jan Shatabdi and Shatabdi. Buses, autos and taxis are easily available from outside the railway station.
