UK Finals Preview

Its that time of year again, the 2015 Last Man Stands season has reached its finale with the UK National Finals weekend upon us in London. This weekend (19th- 20th) Southgate, Southgate Adelaide and Winchmore Hill Cricket Clubs will play host to a weekend of exciting Twenty 20 cricket as one team will be crowned the best LMS team in the UK.

Turn back 5 months to the start of the season, an air of optimism for many as players were dusting off their coloured pads, finding their coloured shirts and checking the all important World Rankings to see who will be their main rivals over the coming months. Of course not all teams registered set their sights at a UK final, unless its the happy hitters competition, but of the 800 teams taking part many see this as the pinnacle of their season. Another record breaking season ensued full of double plays, home runs and high scores. There were many nail biting finishes, even in the league finals with some coming down to last ball victories and even a super over (in Norwich) to decide the fate of the top teams.

The first step at reaching the UK finals is a league title (or a runner up in larger league). The second step on the pathway is a Regional Final victory. Last weekend 96 teams took part in 17 regional finals across the length and breadth of the country and from this our 17 Regional Champions have emerged and will face off this weekend with the 18th team being the winner of the LMS Edinburgh Open Tour.

The 18 teams have been placed into 6 pools, the top team of each pool automatically qualify for the quarter finals and they will be joined by the 2 winning teams from the bowl off which takes place at 7pm, Winchmore Hill CC featuring all pool runner ups.
