Preview to the final !
Barclays Capital, the 2007 Hays City Cup champions were knocked out in the 1/4 final stage this year by IMG. IMG went on to play UBS in the semi final and won this game by 41 runs. In the second semi final the favourites, Credit Suisse, lost to a talented and gutsy Lovells side by 7 runs.
Based on the World Team Rankings, IMG go into the final as favourites. IMG are ranked 68 out of 257 teams currently playing Last Man Stands around the world. Lovells are ranked 95. In the London Team Rankings IMG are 46 and Lovells are 63. These rankings are slightly misleading as a team needs to have played 12 games before it gets an accurate ranking. IMG have played 8 games in the last two seasons and Lovells are new to the competition this year and have only played 5 games.
Based on individual talent and form, Lovells look to be be favourites. Their narrow win over a very strong Credit Suisse side in the semi final could give them a slight edge if things get close in the final. Players to watch out for in the Lovells side are James Down, Evan Flowers, Matt Drew and the skipper Hugh Rosevinge.
IMG have a few handy alll rounders in the form of Seth Homes and Tom Gladstone but their two star players are Mark Raisebeck and John Gayle respectively. Opening batsman Will Dineen can also hit the ball a long way, if he gets in.
The Hays City Cup final for 2008 between Lovells and IMG will take place Thursday 14 August 18:15 at at Regents Park. The winning team gets automatic entry into the £2000 London Champions League.
