BRITISH OPEN REVIEWFor more info on Tours click HERE There are not many tournaments on the LMS Tour schedule that give away 350 World Championship Qualification points worth $3500.00 to the overall winners however the British Open has been the exception to date. Teams travelled far and wide with some players travelling as far as South Africa all to descend on the picturesque Barnes Cricket Grounds. The competition consisted of 12 sides all with a shot of taking home the WCQ points.
Day 1 (Group Stages)
Saw all 12 sides play double headers which would ultimately determine which teams progressed into the main event knock out rounds. The top 2 sides after day 1 would see themselves into the Cup Quarter Finals while sides that finished last in the group stages would move into the Cow Corner Cup Semi Finals. There were some immediate high scoring games. FJT Stallions got their tournament started against the unknown Muzz’s Misifts. Muzz’s Misfits, a fairly new side to LMS, thought they may be able to get the better of FJT Stallions, an assumption that was proven wrong. FJT Stallions cruised to 211 after 20 overs and then stunned Muzz’s Misfits with their bowling attack, bowling them out for 55. LSZ took on Beeru Lions and posted 239. Beeru Lions could only muster up 95 in reply. TFC came up against NWP Lions and while both teams had some big hitters, Hamad Azam of TFC scored a blistering 72 off just 26 balls. This didnt deter NWP Lions one bit with Zaneeq Mashkur scoring 63 from 38. TFC did have the stronger resolve and won the game by 91 runs. At the end of Day one we saw, FJT Stallions, Class is Temporary, TFC, Slough Tigers, Putney Super Kings, LBS and Mumbai Super Kings progress to the Knock out stages of the Main event with Beeru Lions, Muzz’s Misfits, NWP Lions and AJ Sports move into the prestigious Cow Corner Cup event. Day 2 (Knock Out Stages) Game time and after each game, the field began to narrow. Class is Temporary  won their QF comfortably against the Mumbai Super Kings to seal a spot in the Semi Finals against the highly impressive TFC who continued their dominant form against LBS. FJT Stallions continued their strong run of form from the European Open to head into a semi final against LSZ. Teams had little rest time between games as 3 games would need to be played on day 2 to take home British Open glory. A Final spot for Class is Temporary seemed a step too far against a rampant TFC while FJT Stallions managed to secure a final spot by beating LSZ. Finals time and the two top sides entering the tournament now came up head to head. TFC batted first and scored 176 in their 20 overs. Hamad Azam once again dominated with the bat and scored 89 off 38 deliveries.  Burhan Mahmood of FJT Stallions had a great spell of 4/3/9 which restricted the final TFC tally on a square that saw scores surpassing 227 at times. FJT Stallions came into bat but struggled to get any partnerships going. They found themselves 3 down with only 4 runs on the board. Enter Ahmed Kwawja who steadied the ship and scored 65 off 34. Unfortunately wickets continued to fall and TFC were crowned winners of the 2016 British Open. The Cow Corner Cup saw 4 sides battle out for 20 Cow Corner Cup Qualification points. NWP Lions cruised into the final by beating Muzz’s Misfits while AJ Sports took on Beeru Lions and managed to overcome the attack of Beeru. AJ Sports took home victory which now sees them at the top of the Cow Corner Cup Qualification table with 20 points. Congrats TFC who took home 350 points and now top the Race to Cape Town Leaderboard with 600 WCQ points. Â
